History Behind The Design
Ankara West African Textile Fashion is popular in West African in general and specifically in Sierra Leone, Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria. The print style is originally Batik from Indonesia. This was introduced and popularized in West Africa in the mid-19th century when the Dutch enlisted West African men to boost their army in Indonesia. The enlisted men brought back the fabric for their wives and style quickly became popular with new designs created to reflect the local culture.
