These hats are handmade by the men of the Wayuu tribe, both in Colombia and Venezuela. Iraca palm fiber is treated and dyed, and it takes around 8 hours of work to make.
Because of the way they are weaved, the hats can be made smaller or wider, which makes them fit many heads. They can be worn fully down (to protect your face), front down and back up, or totally up.
Pompoms are very important in the Wayuu culture. Bigger pompoms mean that you have financial comfort.
This hat measures about 21in in the head opening. It can be made a bit smaller or larger.
